Book Review – And the mountains echoed

And the Mountains EchoedAnd the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you haven’t heard of Khaled Hosseini then you’re living on Mars!!
First I came across his first book, Kite Runner. What a book it was. And one book was enough for me to become a great admirer of his writing.
Such is a book is “and the mountains echoed”..

The love is depicted so beautifully that in the end it’s the love that wins. The love between a brother and sister.

The story is about a brother and a sister and of all those people associated with them. The author has such a skill to keep you involved in each and every person’s life, switching between each one of them, at on point in time I was saying “oh not again, I want to read more of this person what he’s going to do”..

Also I would like to admit that I was disappointed with some characters being eloborately spoken about, in the novel, which was just building up the pages, could have been cut short..

The brother and sister get separated in their childhood, living in different continents for decades not knowing about each other, and the next time they meet is in their old age. The tragedy is that the brother has lost memory and doesn’t remember aything and the sister doesn’t have any memories of her brother. All they know is each one know half of the nursery rhymes and the sister humms it to finally knowing that she has a brother.

How to they meet and who helps them to meet is the best part of the novel – just like twists and turns in a Bollywood movie. This actually aptly qualifies for one. While reading this novel, I’d a similar experience.

All in all, if you have time and don’t mind having to read stories about many characters and swift shifting between them, then you would enjoy it.

Rating – 4/5 worth reading..
