In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Papa Loves Mambo.”
As I write this post, I put on my earphones to listen to some music and then Steve Tyler sings “Dream on”..
Ah so apt!
Music has always been an important part of my life.
I was introduced to music at around 5-6 years of age. Coming from a orthodox Brahmin community, my sister and I were put into Carnatic music. We used to do vocal practice and learn to play instrument “veena” from a very learned scholar. Maybe if we’d continued we would’ve been very good at it but then life circumstances took us away from this learning.
Then life happens to everyone. So was to me as well. In my teenage years and with friends circle I was introduced to “pop” music. Can you guess what’s that? Yeah backstreet boys kinda music (lol I still remember the lyrics of every single one of the songs by backstreet boys).
So crazy I was about that pop music that is loads and loads of cassettes of them..(if you are from that 90s generation you know what I’m talking about)..
Then again life stumbled me to rock(make that as “grown up” music).. Guns n Roses, Metallica, Linkin Park, Def Leppard, Queen, ACDC (list goes on…..).. And all the credit goes to my graduation days and my then-boyfriend(now husband) who would crazily take me into that dream world of rock music.. He tried (tries real hard even now) to get me to pink Floyd but it hasn’t been working so far(sorry babes!!).. Then, We both started listening to Avicii, club music and we love this as well..
And then while pregnant I dared to listen to Mozart kind of music and some of the above and zapp my baby boy too loves music.. Glad he does actually.. less crankiness when music is played!! (doing a lil bit of victory dance hehe)
So if you ask me, there’s no one kind of music that has made me into what I am, it’s just THE music. It all depends on mood now, sometime in the day would love to listen to Carnatic music/devotional/regional songs and sometimes pop music(anything but Justin beiber please! gosh what does he even sing?!) and then rock and then club music..
What do you think? Are you crazy music person like me or just listen to one genre? Lemme know, would love to hear back from you 🙂
